Who we are #

Interactive Code Ltd is a company registered in England and Wales, company number 12163219, and is the data controller for the information described here. You can reach us at dev@interactivecode.co.uk, which is the address to use for anything on this page, including asking us to delete what we hold.

What the free tools send, and what they do not #

Every calculator on this site runs inside your browser. The figures you type are never sent to us. They are not stored, and nobody but you sees them.

Two things do reach us, and this is all the tools themselves send:

• That a tool was used. We record the page, with no figures attached, so we know which tools are worth keeping and which to drop.
• The summary on the button at the end, and only if you press it. That button carries the same summary into the form on our homepage, where you can read, edit or delete it before you send anything. Pressing it is what sends it.

Alongside those we keep the page you were on, the site that sent you, your browser's user agent and the time. We do not store your IP address, and there is no identifier, so the record is not about you, it is about the page.

When you ask for an audit or send an enquiry #

The form on our homepage asks for:

• your name and email address, which we need in order to reply
• your company name, what you would like help with and your team size, which are optional
• whatever you write in the message box

We use it to answer you and, if you go ahead, to carry out the audit and the work that follows. The lawful basis is that we are taking steps at your request before entering a contract, and, where an enquiry does not lead anywhere, our legitimate interest in keeping a record of who contacted us and what we said.

What happens to it:

• it is stored in our Firebase project, hosted by Google Cloud in London
• a copy is emailed to us through Resend, our email provider, so we see it quickly
• a short alert is sent to a private Telegram account so we know an enquiry has landed

Google, Resend and Telegram act as our processors for this and do not use your information for their own purposes. Some of them process data outside the UK, under the transfer safeguards their contracts provide.

How long we keep it. Enquiries that do not become work are deleted once we no longer need them. Where we do work together, we keep what the relationship and our records require, and our accounting records for the six years the law requires.

If we contacted you first #

We write to a small number of businesses we think we can help, and we are straightforward about where their details came from. We use business contact details published by the business itself, or on public registers such as Companies House. We hold the business name and address, a business email address or phone number, the name and role of the person we think we should speak to, and a short note on why we got in touch.

The lawful basis is our legitimate interest in offering a service to businesses likely to want it. We do not make cold calls, and we do not send marketing email to sole traders or ordinary partnerships, who have stronger protection under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations.

Cookies and measurement #

This site sets no cookies. Nothing is written to your device and nothing is read back off it, which is why there is no banner here asking you to agree to anything.

We do use Google Analytics, in a setting that stores nothing on your device. The ordinary version of it keeps an identifier in a cookie so that it recognises you when you come back. That is turned off here, so each page opened is counted on its own, and nothing joins it up with the page you opened before it, with a later visit, or with anything you do on any other website. Google's advertising features and its cross-device signals are turned off as well, so none of this feeds advertising.

What it tells us is which pages get read, roughly which country a reader is in, what kind of device they used, how far down a page they got and which links they followed out. We use it to work out which guides are worth writing more of. Google acts as our processor for this, and processes some of it outside the UK under the transfer safeguards its contracts provide.

Alongside it we use Google Search Console, which tells us which searches brought people here. That works from Google's own records of its search results and involves no code on this site at all.

If any of this ever changes we will say so here first, and anything that needs to be written to your device will ask you before it runs.

The client workspace at /audit is a private, signed in area for people we already work with. It uses Google's authentication and stores the audit data you and we put into it. It is not part of the public site.

What we never do #

Your rights #

You can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, ask us to restrict what we do with it, and object to us processing it on the basis of legitimate interests, including for any outreach. Email dev@interactivecode.co.uk and we will answer within one month.

If you think we have got something wrong, please tell us first so we can fix it. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk, or on 0303 123 1113.

Changes to this notice #

When this notice changes, the date at the top changes with it. If a change matters to anyone who has already contacted us, we will say so by email rather than quietly editing the page.
